Fascia, rake boards and soffits

These are the boards the gutters hang off and the trim that closes the roof edge. They take the worst of the weather, they are the first thing to rot, and once they have gone soft the gutters start pulling away and water gets behind them.

We handle this as part of the roof rather than sending you to find a carpenter, because the work is easiest and cheapest while the staging is already up and the roof edge is already open.

PVC trim where it earns its place

On the exposures that keep rotting — north faces, anywhere behind a gutter that overflows, low trim near a roof-to-wall junction — PVC trim does not rot, does not need repainting on the same cycle, and takes paint if you want it to match.

It is not the right answer everywhere. On a historic house with visible profile trim, matched wood is often the better call, and we will say so.

Deck repair during a re-roof

Once the old roof is off we can see the sheathing. Soft or delaminated boards get replaced before the new roof goes down — which is the entire argument for tearing off rather than roofing over.
